Seal Assembly & Grease Applications

Seal Assembly & Grease Applications

Assembly Automation

SITUATION

The customer was expanding into a new production facility and wanted to automate seal component assembly, replacing a manual process that required close monitoring and heavy physical labor. The machine needed to run autonomously except for loading sleeve parts, hold cycle times under 60 seconds per part, keep changeover under 10 minutes, support multiple HMI recipes, and meet NFPA 79, OSHA, UL, and NEC requirements.

SOLUTION

Big Sky Engineering built a component assembly cell with integrated inspection and grease application stations, engineered with strategic service areas that keep operators clear of hazards. Mid-project, the customer requested additional grease application steps and programming changes; Big Sky Engineering updated the design and still delivered on schedule, including through the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, when Big Sky Engineering was deemed an essential business and combined remote design, build, and programming work with on-site safety practices to keep the project moving.
